Benghazi Criminal Investigation Unit dismantles human smuggling network

* Libya 03.04.20 - Criminal Investigation Unit of Benghazi Security Directorate apprehended 14 illegal migrants and dismantled human smuggling network. A successful investigation led to the arrest of 1 Libyan and 1 Chadian who are allegedly the kingpins of this network. Migrants predominately from Chad and Sudan were being smuggled via Kufra route and later  kept in "safe farmhouses" in groups of 80 - 100 before further transport to coastal cities. The human smuggling network active since 2017 extorted for their services between 1500 LYD - 3000 LYD (ca. 1000 - 2000 USD) per migrant.
